Making Your New Room Feel Like Home 🌿

Hi everyone, Charlotte here!
Moving into a new room—especially if you’ve moved from a different city or are living away from home for the first time—can feel a bit like wearing a new pair of shoes. It looks great, but it takes a little bit of time to truly mold to you.
At Lashlake, we provide the beautiful blank canvas, but the "soul" of the room comes from you. Here are my favourite ways to settle in and make your new space feel like your personal sanctuary:
1. The Power of "Greenery"
Nothing breathes life into a room like a plant. If you have a green thumb, a Peace Lily or a Snake Plant are great low-maintenance housemates. Not a plant person? A high-quality faux eucalyptus or succulent looks just as fresh and requires zero watering! It instantly softens the room and adds a pop of nature.
2. Scent-Sational Spaces
Our sense of smell is tied closely to memory and comfort. While we don't allow open flames (safety first!), a reed diffuser or a plug-in scent warmer with vanilla, lavender, or linen scents can make your room feel instantly familiar and calming.
3. Layer the Textures
A house becomes a home when it feels cosy. Throw a chunky knit blanket over your chair or add a couple of textured cushions to your bed. It’s an easy way to add your personality without needing any DIY.
Photos
The fastest way to banish those first-night nerves is to see familiar faces. Bringing photos of your loved ones—family, friends, or even the dog you've left behind—makes a world of difference. Whether they are in stylish frames on your desk or clipped onto a cute wire mood board, having those memories on display turns a new room into your room. It’s that instant connection to home that makes your new space feel safe and lived-in.
5. Explore Your New "Local"
Don't stay cooped up! The best way to beat those moving nerves is to find your "spots":
The Coffee Run: Find the nearest independent café for your Saturday morning treat.
The Green Space: Locate the local park for a quick headspace walk.
The Essentials: Scout out the best nearby supermarket and pharmacy so you feel prepared.
Charlotte’s Top Tip: Pop into the kitchen when you hear a housemate making tea. A quick "hello" and a chat about the best local takeaway is the fastest way to feel like part of the Lashlake community!
